The experience begins with trying to work out what you’re actually eating before taking the first bite!  Dishes such as a burger disguised as a Saint-Honoré pastry or asparagus risotto designed to look like a floating island dessert create plenty of conversation around the table.

What we ate

We started with a small plate showcasing a selection of the desserts.

MINI-MAGNUM Prawn terrine with preserved lemon

GRANOLA Burrata, savory muesli, tomatoes, Kalamata olives

starters Privé de Dessert Paris Review | Unique Paris Restaurant

CHEESECAKE Feta cream, seeded shortbread, candied beets

MATCHA LATTE Avocado and cucumber gazpacho, hummus emulsion

These were….interesting I’m a big fish fan, however, even this mini magnum was a lot of fish for me. The Matcha Latte and Granola were refreshing and ideal for a sultry Paris evening.

Onto the mains.

FLOATING ISLAND
Creamy risotto with asparagus and peas, cloud egg.  So creamy, it tasted more like a rice pudding than a savoury.  Maybe some salmon to give some umami flavour?

SAINT HONORÉ – burger and churros.  perfect burger topped with éclair and cream served with sweet potato churros.

ECLAIR – Smoked salmon tartare, carrot and courgette salad, avocado whipped cream.  A light éclair filled with smoked salmon and a luxuriously creamy avocado.

Desserts.  We had to order the sponge.

THE SPONGE

Almond-pistachio financier with orange-passion fruit coulis.  Order it!  the almond cake just looked like a scrubbing sponge! Thankfully, it didn’t taste like it!

BREADED FISH. KETCHUP X MAYO
White chocolate and coconut panna cotta, hibiscus coulis. lemon cream.  Smooth and creamy panna cotta with deliciously tart lemon curd mayo.  Sadly, they didn’t really look like fish fingers to us.

STEAK TARTARE
Fresh fruit infused with hibiscus, creamy mango-passion fruit. Superb, tart fruit and a creamy custard like “yolk”. A realistic looking dish.

What to order at Privé de Dessert

  • The Sponge – the must-order dessert and the most visually fun dish.
  • Saint-Honoré Burger – best for the full savoury-disguised-as-dessert experience.
  • Steak Tartare Dessert – one of the most realistic-looking sweet dishes.
  • Mini sharing plate – good if you want to try several of the trompe-l’œil starters.

This works well because your review already names those dishes and gives a clear opinion on them.

Honest verdict

Privé de Dessert is worth visiting if you want a playful, memorable restaurant experience in Paris. The food is fun rather than flawless, and the concept is stronger than some of the flavours, but that is part of the appeal. Go for the theatre, the conversation and the sponge dessert. If you are after a refined gourmet dinner, there are better restaurants in Paris, but for a quirky Pigalle meal before or after Montmartre, it is a fun choice.
