Always impressed by the glow from within The Grill on the Corner we were glad to get inside to the warmth from the chilly Glasgow evening.
We were shown to one of the booths and introduced to our waiter who after leaving us for a little while to get settled in came back to guide us through the menu and suggest drinks.
He suggested a bottle of Tarquino Shiraz Malbec 2012 to go with the steaks, a Fruity, lovely medium bodied wine. Being fans of Argentinian Malbec we were happy to go along with this and it didn’t disappoint!
Starters range from Oysters, Chicken Liver Pate to Fish Cakes and Beef Capaccio. We decided on double baked cheese soufflé and calamari. Our waiter warned that this was the real deal, tentacles and all. Excellent!
Calamari – crispy, crunchy squid rings and wee squids/octopus tentacles not a hint of rubber!!
Lemony mayo, Slice of lime, tangy rocket, simple yet Delish (£6.00)
Both portions were a very good size for starters.
Mains include a wide range of seafood, Lobster and Chips is the special for March (£20) which was popular, Burgers, Fajitas but it’s the meat that is the centre of attention – everything from steak frites to Wagyu fillet on offer.
I went for a medium Rump and hand cut chips with peppercorn sauce (£17.75 plus £2.00 sauce)
Green beans and finely chopped shallots (£3.25)
While Mr M asked for a rare Posh surf n turf £17.00 with Field mushrooms extra (£3.25)
Small scallops, tiny crayfish, a couple of prawns. The sirloin was tasty but once again as is always the case in Glasgow it wasn’t not even remotely rare and was medium verging on well-done. Some crayfish with shells on might have made the dish a bit more impressive looking. Mushrooms were strong tasting and cooked well.
Cheese and “fruit” board £7.00
Room temp cheese yay! A blue, a cheddarish and a Brie, all very nice but no idea what they were and 8 crackers another yay as usually I run out of cracker.
Choc and black cherry torte with vanilla ice cream £5.75
Thick hazelnutty like a big slab of Nutella with a thin layer of cherry jam between the filling and the pastry.
With dessert we also ordered a “stump jump sticky Chardonnay”, true to its name, sticky and very sweet with a nice fruity aroma £4 a glass. Lovely!
Overall, loved the food, a couple of minor grinches (toilets a bit of a hike and not as swish as expected – hand lotion?) , however, excellent food, service and staff. Great to be able to watch the kitchen at work too.
A good wee bonus was when leaving we were drooling over the kitchen area and the chef offered one of his biscuits to try, a proud man!
