Hilton Garden Inn’s new ReCESS restaurant

Last night we ventured down to the Clydeside to sample some dishes at the Hilton Garden Inn’s newly renovated restaurant, ReCESS.

Located beside the SSE Hydro, Admadillo and SEC, as well as the river Clyde. This is a top spot that can get ignored in the rush to go city centre or nearby Finnieston.

The change inside is dramatic with one of the inside walls, which separated the bar and the restaurant, having been knocked down. Now the space flows, looking a lot airier and brighter than before.

There’s a more relaxed feel here too, now that’s there’s no separation between bar and restaurant with banquette seating, colourful cushions and a screen imprinted with the squinty bridge.

And then there’s the terrace just outside for some sun, and we got some sun (though it was quite windy! Typical Glasgow in July!).

Food

Chef Stephen introduced himself and outlined what ReCESS was all about. A more relaxed menu with a variety of food to suit the mood and not just what the kitchen want to serve.  From pork scratchings to sandwiches to burgers to lamb and rump steak. There’s something for every occasion be it a lunch catch-up with friends or a meal before a show.

A selection of starters were brought out and we all dived in! Pork crackling, squid rings, olives, ploughman’s platter and our favourite of the selection: portobello fries – sliced portobello mushroom with a crisp coating and blue cheese dip. For anyone put off by the concept of this, the mushroom was not soggy in the slightest.

We each ordered a main course.  I picked the rump steak with fries and chimichurri sauce.

Perfectly-cooked medium and moist. The chimichurri sauce had just the right amount of garlic, parsley and coriander to enhance the steak. It’s almost as if Argentinians know what goes perfectly with a steak 😉. I would happily return for this.

Mr Foodie picked the boneless chicken thigh with shiitake mushroom, basmati rice and chimichurri sauce. The mushrooms once more were remarkedly crisp and would surprise anyone with a fear of fungi! The chicken was nicely cooked, retaining moistness with the rice soaking up the flavours of the chimichurri.

By this time we all wanted to find a couch and go to sleep! But there was more!

Samples of desserts including  treacle  tart, eton mess and sticky toffee pudding . It was almost all too much! Almost 😉 We gave it a try but failed to finish. The Eton mess being our favourite and Mr Foodie also enjoyed the tart. (I hope I don’t have to say that phrase out loud!

We enjoyed our visit to the new look ReCESS restaurant at Hilton Garden Inn.  It’s an ideal place to catch some sun, admire the river views and relax.  The menu has some tasty dishes and matches the more relaxed feel.
