The end of the year is always a good time to look back and think about all the delicious meals and amazing places we visited in 2018. This year we’ve decided to make things a little more official with the love of our favourites by giving them a very public hug for providing memorable experiences.
BEST NEWCOMER
Splashing onto the Glasgow Foodie scene this year was Stack and Still. Towers of American-style pancakes in both a sweet and savoury style. The queue to get in is almost as long as the list of pancake combos!
BEST INDIAN
A hidden gem, just south of Edinburgh with an award-winning chef, fish curries and great service.
BEST THAI
Nok’s Kitchen, Edinburgh
Mr Foodie loves Thai cuisine and this was the more flavoursome Thai meal we had in 2018.
BEST SPANISH
High-class Spanish cuisine with excellent Spanish wine, beer and cider to match!
BEST FINE DINING
111 by Nico is a fine introduction to fine dining. Expertly priced, good service and relaxed. A firm fave of all the foodie family.
BEST BRUNCH
Restaurant-quality dishes in a bijou cafe in Strathbungo. Special mention for the hot cakes!
BEST COFFEE
Coffee flights, great cakes and limited edition coffees from around the world made this our favourite coffee spot of 2018 despite only opening in September!
BEST ITALIAN
La Lanterna, Glasgow
A firm favourite of the Foodie family. It’s hard to beat the monkfish wrapped in parma ham with tagliolini!
BEST PIZZA
Mozza, Glasgow
Authentic ingredients and the best pizza base in Glasgow in our opinion.
BEST FARM TO FORK
Ardross Farm Shop, Fife
A family-owned business stocking loads of their own produce (such as grass-fed beef) and so much artisan produce from further afield.
BEST BAR
The Pot Still, Glasgow
Another favourite of the foodie family, and not just for whisky as the beer selection is ace too (and includes real ale).
BEST HOTEL MEAL
Paul Tamburrini at MacDonald Holyrood Hotel
Martin Wishart’s former chef director at the Honours went solo and opened up his own restaurant in the capital with impressive results!
BEST HOTEL EXPERIENCE
Moor of Rannoch
Want to get away from it all? You’ll certainly feel a million miles from civilisation where the road ends at Moor of Rannoch but inside a warm welcome awaits, excellent food, a great whisky and gin selection and complimentary evening cheeseboard.
BEST MEAL
Inver, Argyll
This is where we went after getting married, and very memorable it was too!
