What better way to start the weekend than with beer tasting at the Tennent’s Training Academy at the back of Tennent’s brewery on Duke Street. Join beer geek Jehad Hatu from Grunting Growler as he takes you through the history of this popular alcoholic beverage; learn about malt, hops, barley and er, water – yes water makes a difference as you’ll discover (you’ll also find out why a growler is called as growler!).
Served in glasses suitable for picking up the aromas, you will look at the colour, liveliness and of course taste – with food pairings, the charcutière and cheese were excellent and there was some chocolate too! I won’t say what the beers were on this occasion but we started with a light lager and then tried various styles like a traditional ale, sour fruity lambic, IPA, a dark beer and a spiced seasonal beer, we had samples from eight beers in total and there were a few local ones, including one from Glasgow’s newest brewers Floodline that we’d never seen before.
The running time is 2 hours from 18:00 – 20:00 on Fridays and Saturdays from now until November. Tickets are £36 per person which includes return mini-bus transport from the Duke Street entrance, 8 different beers, food and a beer history including some beer truths & myths and relaxed informal chat. You can also take in a brewery tour at 4pm if you have time and a pint of Tennents! This masterclass can also be purchased as a Gift Experience Voucher, Just quote online at the time of booking.
