The Railway Inn Skipton – Steak Night review

Steak Night at The Railway Inn Skipton

On the train down to Skipton we decided we’d best book one of the dinner options we had seen as it sounded a great offer.  The Railway Inn Skipton had a steak night deal listed on their website for £14.95 including a drink, which is unbelievable value in 2025!

While not directly beside Skipton station, The Railway Inn is a mere 5-minute walk away, and is filled with Railway ephemera.

The bar looked welcoming, however dinner was served in the separate dining area, which had a friendly hubbub.

£18.95 was a higher price than what we expected but still good value.  Their website has been updated in part now…but when you click on the steak night menu, the menu further above still appears!

What we ate and drank

There was a surprisingly variety of drinks on offer via the steak night deal, as all their real ales were included so Mark chose a Hetton pale ale, which was dry, refreshing citrusy and biscuity ale, while I just had a pint of coke.

Salmon, potatoes, salad and coleslaw for me. The salmon had been cooked with peppercorns however it needed a sauce, as it was a little bland.  A healthy portion of undressed salad, however this was warm due to the salmon being presented this way.

The steak was supposed to be as sirloin though it was an unusual shape but it was cooked as requested, tender enough and cooked with peppercorns for flavour. The chips were OK; typical pub chips.

A side of onion rings were also ordered for an additional £3, and they had a large batter to onion ratio sadly.

Verdict

£40.90 for the two of us including two drinks and the extra side.  The food was decent but not a must visit, however, outside of a chain pub you‘ll struggle to get steak and a drink for under £19. It certainly filled our bellies after the train journey and service was quick and friendly so if you‘re looking for food near Skipton station this is worth considering.
