The distillery describes this whisky as having rich berry fruit, treacle and warming spice, with bright citrus and tropical fruit running alongside them.

That combination sounds delicious, and it is indeed.  We found it a rich, almost spiced and smokey whisky.  The fruit and treacle giving it a richness, while the citrus and tropical notes bring a brighter counterpoint.

Why the bottling details matter

At 55.5% ABV, The Clydeside 8 Year Old Small Batch is a higher-strength whisky, giving drinkers room to explore it with a little water.

“Natural colour” means no colouring has been added. “Non-chill filtered” describes a bottling choice that avoids the chilling and filtration process often used to prevent haze.

The Clydeside is based in the former Queen’s Dock Pumphouse, connecting modern whisky production with Glasgow’s maritime history. Its established range already includes Napier, an Oloroso-matured single malt, so sherry casks are a familiar part of the distillery’s portfolio.

This eight-year-old small batch release offers another way to explore that side of The Clydeside. For anyone interested in whisky made in Glasgow, its age, maturation and bottling strength provide useful points of comparison with the wider range.

There is also the opportunity to visit the source. The distillery offers tours where visitors can see its whisky production, making it an accessible stop for a Glasgow city break.
