Euro Cafe Caledonian Road review – a proper old-school London breakfast
Euro Cafe on Caledonian Road is the kind of traditional London café that seems increasingly difficult to find. There are no elaborate brunch dishes, designer interiors or queues for photogenic pancakes. Instead, you will find generous cooked breakfasts, mugs of tea and friendly, straightforward service.

Inside Euro Cafe
The interior has the unmistakable appearance of a traditional London caff.
Bright green moulded chairs sit around simple Formica-style tables, while bottles of ketchup and brown sauce are already waiting for hungry customers. A handwritten blackboard displays the café’s breakfast offers, adding to the pleasingly unfussy atmosphere.
It is practical rather than polished, but that is very much part of the charm. Euro Cafe feels like a genuine neighbourhood business where the priority is feeding people well rather than creating an Instagram backdrop.

The menu
We visited Cafe Euro for breakfast and chose three of the special set meals from the blackboard: Set 1, Set 4 and Set 5.

Each breakfast was priced at £9.90 and included a choice of tea or coffee, along with toast or bread.
Set 1 came with: One egg, Sausage, Mushrooms, Bubble and squeak and Baked beans
This was the most traditional of our three choices, particularly with the inclusion of bubble and squeak.

The combination of egg, sausage, mushrooms and beans delivered everything expected from a classic café breakfast, while the bubble and squeak made it feel a little more substantial. It is an ideal choice for anyone who enjoys a proper old-fashioned fry-up without ordering an enormous plate.
Set 4 included: One egg, Sausage, Hash brown, Bacon and Baked beans
This option replaced the bubble and squeak with a hash brown. It was a familiar and comforting combination, bringing together the main components many people look for in a cooked breakfast. The beans and bacon added plenty to the plate, while the hash brown provided that essential fried-potato element. Set 4 would be a good choice for anyone wanting a straightforward full breakfast without mushrooms.

Set 5 came with: Two eggs, Bacon, Sausage and Tomato
With two eggs alongside bacon and sausage, this was the most protein-heavy of the three breakfasts. The grilled tomato helped balance the richer elements, although this set does not include beans, mushrooms or potatoes. It is therefore a simpler plate, but one that should suit diners who would rather have extra eggs than a larger selection of sides.

Tea, coffee and toast
Including tea or coffee and toast or bread in the £9.90 price makes the breakfast sets easy to understand and reasonably good value for London.
There is no need to build a breakfast item by item or discover that toast and a hot drink cost considerably more. Everything arrives as part of one complete meal, which is exactly how an old-school café breakfast should work.

Foodie Explorers verdict
Cafe Euro is a proper Holloway Road caff: simple, welcoming and refreshingly free from brunch trends. We enjoyed seeing traditional choices such as bubble and squeak alongside familiar breakfast favourites including eggs, bacon, sausage, mushrooms, beans and hash browns.
The bright green chairs, handwritten menu and bottles of sauce on the tables complete the old-school experience. It is not luxurious, but it does not need to be. Cafe Euro delivers the sort of uncomplicated cooked breakfast that traditional London cafés do best.
