Where’s the beef? Nationwide Sunday roast deliveries
Restaurants throughout the UK might be open, or opening soon but what if you still want to have restaurant-quality food at home? Alston Bar & Beef choice steaks and Sunday roasts with everything you need to have a restaurant meal, but at home and they deliver nationwide. So whether you are still waiting on your covid vaccine, or not quite ready to venture outside for a meal yet, or even because you just want a Sunday roast prepared for you then read on to find out what we thought of Alston Bar and Beef at home. Below is a link to our last visit to Alston in Glasgow.
The Alston at home packages are designed for two people and supply meat sourced by butcher John Gilmour who is a third-generation family butcher from the Scottish Borders. You can choose from three cuts of steak: sirloin, fillet and ribeye or Chateaubriand and your package also includes sides, dessert and a bottle of wine. Or, you can order Sunday roast as we have done.
The chef has put together all your ingredients in temperature-controlled packaging, with written cooking instructions, all you have to do is cook.
Each box includes:
500g rolled rump cap roast (1kg if you order for 4)
Beef dripping roast potatoes
Truffled mash potatoes
Seasonal vegetables with garlic soya butter
Dairy-free Yorkshire pudding batter
Braised onion Gravy
Sticky toffee syrup pudding with walnut praline
Bottle of Wine: Finca La Florencia Malbec Mendoza 2018*

Ordering and Delivery
Ordering was easy, just click the image on the dish, or dishes, you wish to order and add it to your cart.
The deadline for a Friday delivery is 5pm on the Tuesday. Once you have ordered, you will receive a confirmation email with delivery details. We also received SMS messages regarding delivery time on the Friday.
As you can see below, the items came packed and chilled in a sturdy box.
The whole cooking process took around an hour, this was for medium-rare cooked beef. Full details are provided on the cooking instructions, so no need to panic.
The rump beef was richly seasoned, moist and tender. Of course, Fred, our eldest cat, came up for a sniff and his best please face. So Fred was given a few pieces of beef and Fred approved! The mash was smooth with a light truffle taste, enough to give a slight musky mushroom taste that goes so well with beef. A mixture of seasonal vegetables was also provided – carrots, tender stem broccoli and green beans coated in a light garlic soya butter served with dairy-free Yorkshire puddings (we didn’t notice any difference in taste), finally fluffy roast potatoes and a thick onion gravy completes the meal.
There is a lot of food here – we ate it at lunchtime and then only grazed at dinner time.
Supplied alongside the meal was a bottle of Finca La Florencia Malbec Mendoza 2018. Rated 3.9 on Vivino, and we think worthy of this rating. A soft and smooth easy drinking red wine that is bold in black fruit and woody flavours.
We had to have a rest after the roast, one of the benefits of eating at home is that we could have a quick chill on the sofa before dessert.
Sticky toffee pudding with walnut praline. We added a scoop of ice cream ourselves, but some custard or fresh cream is another serving suggestion, or you can just eat it as is. lt’s a plump and moist sweet sponge with a good crunch from the walnut Praline pieces.
A bonus packet of Gordon Street Coffee was also included, just enough for a cafetiere of coffee for two to end the meal. ☕️
Easy-to-follow instructions meant a stress-free Sunday Roast. No need for a million different pots and pans to cook the roast, which is just what is needed at the weekend. Cook and enjoy with lots of time to relax.
