Unforgettable afternoon tea at The Egerton House Hotel in elegant surroundings
The Egerton House Hotel red-brick Victorian townhouse dates from 1843 and is located right in the heart of vibrant Knightsbridge. It’s a short stroll from the busy Brompton Road, Harrods, and the world-famous Victoria & Albert Museum, which was the serendipitous reason for our visit.
However, you will feel miles away from the bustle of one of London’s busiest areas on this peaceful, residential road.
We settled into our chairs for a Cartier-inspired afternoon tea at The Egerton House Hotel after going to see the exhibition itself – it’s a short walk from The V&A. Inside the decor is sumptuous with a relaxing and calm ambience surrounding us.
This Tea and Treasures Afternoon Tea is inspired by the dazzling world of fine jewellery, and you pick a tea to compliment your sandwiches, before fresh scones arrive, and then you can pick a second tea to accompany these.
We started by choosing our first teas, a traditional afternoon tea blend Assam, and an Earl Grey.
You can also enhance the afternoon with a glass of Champagne or non-alcoholic 1847 Martini, we opted for the latter, which was light and refreshing with a citrusy bergamot taste.
We didn’t have long to wait before the luxurious selection of sandwiches and cakes arrived.
The dainty sandwiches had fillings including smoked salmon; free-range egg mayonnaise; Cheddar cheese and tomato; cucumber cream cheese; and coronation chicken. All of them were fresh and flavoursome, especially the salmon, which was served on seeded rye bread.
Now, the cakes, wow. Almost too good to eat…almost!
Quadrillage Royale
A regal reinvention of the beloved Battenberg. The signature checkerboard sponge is infused with vanilla and toasted almonds; its rich hues of deep
burgundy and ivory evoking timeless elegance.
Boite de Luxe
An opulent symphony of dark chocolate mousse encased in a glossy cocoa glaze.
Pearl Solitaire
A delicate lemon sponge, draped in a smooth pearlescent glaze. This cake embodies the timeless grace of a perfect solitaire gemstone–pure and radiant.
Eternal Elegance
A crisp, buttery cocoa tart shell with a smooth dark chocolate ganache adorned with a delicate, watch-inspired design – evoking the beauty of haute horology (the study of time, and the art of measuring it).
Rivière de Framboise
Rivière de Framboise is an edible work of art. A chocolate brownie with a silky raspberry cheesecake topped with a lavish assortment of fresh berries and jewelled seeds.
Freshly baked plain and fruit scones arrived to go alongside the traditional strawberry jam and cream A ramekin of homemade lemon curd was provided and is a must try with the scones.
These plump scones were begging to be topped with clotted cream.
With our scones we chose another tea from the menu, a flowering jasmine and lily tea for myself, and a chai tea for Mark. Again flavoursome teas which didn’t overpower the sweet delights served.

After all that we were stuffed! Thankfully staff will box up anything uneaten for you to take home.
