El Santo Glasgow to Host First-Ever Uruguayan Wine Dinner
El Santo Latin American Restaurant in Glasgow’s Merchant City is inviting diners to take their tastebuds on a journey around South America with its first-ever wine dinner.
Taking place on Tuesday 26th May, the special evening will showcase a five-course menu created by Brazilian Head Chef Juliana Kipper, paired with exceptional wines from renowned Uruguayan winemaker Juan Andres Marichal.

Juan will attend the dinner in person, presenting each wine and sharing the story behind his family vineyard, Marichal, located in the Canelones region of Uruguay.
A Five-Course South American Wine Dinner in Glasgow
The menu has been carefully designed to highlight the flavours of Latin America, with each course matched to wines selected by Juan and Juliana.

The evening begins with a Tuna Tostada served with salsa negra, kimchi emulsion and caviar, paired with Chandon Brut.
This is followed by a scallop course with sweet potato purée and sugarcane molasses, matched with a Natural Orange Wine.
Before the main course, diners will enjoy a refreshing avocado sorbet with lemon and extra virgin olive oil, served alongside a Marichal Albariño.
The star of the menu is Juliana’s signature Picanha steak, served with cassava purée, shallots and okra. This will be paired with either a Marichal Tannat or Pinot Noir.
Dessert brings the evening to a rich and indulgent close with a Dulce de Leche Fondant with coconut and walnut, paired with an Alcyone Tannat Dessert Wine.
Uruguayan Wines from Marichal Vineyard
The Marichal vineyard grows a variety of grapes including Tannat, Pinot Noir, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Chardonnay, Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc.
Located around 40km from the sea, the vineyard benefits from clay soils, gently sloping hills and cooling coastal breezes during the hot summers, helping to give the wines their distinctive character.
“We are very excited to debut our first ever wine dinner here at El Santo, showcasing the incredible skills of Juliana, our talented head chef, who brings all her knowledge and experience of Latin American cuisine, particularly the Brazilian dishes of her upbringing, to bear,” said Restaurant Operations Manager Denny Norris.
“It’s an honour to partner wine expert Juan Andres in this experience. His wines are absolutely exceptional, and guests are in for a treat with the opportunity to try beautiful wines specially matched to Juliana’s food.”
