24/04/2017 by Emma Leave a Comment

Oak Aged Makar Top of The Barrel at International Spirits Challenge

Glasgow Distillery Company won a silver award at the International Spirits Challenge with their Cask Aged Oak Gin.  Released as a limited edition in December last year, the newest variant of Makar gin achieved a silver award in the gin category. The competition is now in its 22nd year and attracts entries from all over the world.  This year's competition saw 1,300 entries from 70 countries worldwide, so quite a battle!

Makar Oak Aged is a small batch gin which is then stored in European virgin Oak casks and the result is a gin that balances the subtle flavours of the oak whilst retaining its distinctive juniper-led nose.

Speaking of the award, Mike Hayward, co-founder of Glasgow Distillery Company explains: “Innovation and experimentation are at the forefront of our distilling. When we created the cask aged variants, our vision was to create a product that retains the identity of our much-loved Makar gin, but with a flavour twist that our customers can enjoy.  To achieve a silver award for our limited edition Oak Aged is very rewarding and highlights the booming trend for fresh gins.”
