Get there

Travel & Joy Backpackers is located on Spálená and is beside the Lazarská tram stops.   For Metro, Narodni Trida is within walking distance.

Enter through the Restaurace U Kotvy entrance, where you will find an alleyway with the office for Travel & Joy to your left.  The office closes at 8pm.  It is possible to check in via the bar area after 8pm, you will have to agree this with the office beforehand.

Looking back to the front door, the first door to the right here is for the bar.

The restaurant is outside in the courtyard area, we didn’t try any of the food here and didn’t see many guests here either.

Once checked in, go up the stairs to find your accommodation.  There are no lifts, so you might have a climb!

The Rooms at Travel & Joy Backpackers

There are private rooms and dorms available here.   We booked a private room, however these do share a bathroom and toilet.   There is a common room with a kitchen which had everything we needed such as cooker, microwave and kettle.

The rooms are clean and tidy and each bed has a shelf, reading lamp and a plug.   The beds aren’t the most comfortable and are low.  Bed linen is included, however bring your towel – or hire one from reception.

The toilet and shower areas were cleaned regularly, however there was a prevailing odour in the shower room – possibly from the pipes not being flushed through enough or they are low lying pipes which don’t clear out enough.

The rooms at the front of the building get a lot of street noise from passers by and the rumbling of the trams.

Seemingly the rooms facing the courtyard are much quieter.

Verdict

The rooms at Travel & Joy Backpackers were clean and tidy, centrally located and most of all cheap!  The beds were a bit uncomfortable so not the best sleep at night.   It can be loud with the noise from the street outside, however you get used to the rumble of the trams.

The accommodation suited us as we were out exploring most of the time and it was convenient for shops and transportation.

TL;DR

+ Cheap

+ Central Location

– Tram noise

-Beds are uncomfortable
