Is Lennox Glasgow Worth Visiting?

If you’re searching for a new restaurant in Glasgow’s West End then Lennox should be high on your list.

Located on Byres Road in the former Six by Nico site below Somewhere by Nico, Lennox is the latest concept from Scottish chef Nico Simeone and offers a menu focused on fire-cooked dishes, indulgent sharing plates, dry-aged meats and creative cocktails.

The concept behind Lennox

Unlike the theatrical tasting menus that made Six by Nico famous, Lennox takes a more relaxed and approachable approach to traditional dining, but with a big emphasis on meat and hedonism (We like the sound of that!)

Inside Lennox Glasgow

The restaurant combines New York brasserie-inspired design with an open kitchen for those who like to keep an eye on things. At either side of the kitchen are two dry-aging cabinets, where you can check out the hefty cuts of meat available.

Your server may even offer to bring a couple over to the table for a closer look, like here – 1.3KG of a porterhouse is a lot of protein!

The menu is designed for sharing and exploration, with small plates sitting alongside larger dishes and premium cuts of meat.

What we ate at Lennox

Fish Finger

fish finger – warm tartare – gribiche (£10.50) listed as a fish finger but looking more like a savoury Battenberg cake crossed with a fern cake! The fish was chunky with a perfect crisp coating. It was served in tartare and a gribiche sauce, which is like tartare sauce, but the main difference is that it is made with cooked and not raw eggs.

agnolotti - wild mushroom - rabbit leg ragu

agnolotti – wild mushroom – rabbit leg ragù (£15) rabbit is something you don’t see very often, here encased in pasta, but we were in Malta a few weeks ago, where rabbit stew is the national dish so we ate it twice – with spaghetti. This was on a par with anything we ate there. Comforting and hearty.

gnocchi - chicken wings - parmesan

gnocchi – chicken wings – parmesan (£13.50) we were told that this is one of Nico’s signature dishes but it wasn’t one we’d had before, to our knowledge, but it was really good so we’d be happy to order it again. Salty, with a great savoury maillard flavour from the chicken skin.

cote de boeuf

cote de boeuf 800g  (£75) the main attraction was a big beefy affair complete with bone. Cooked medium-rare, this was thick, beefy, juicy, tender, everything you’d expect, with great caramelisation down one side especially.

We ate this alongside fried baby spuds – roast garlic aioli (£5.50) well-cooked, tasty tatties on a heap of aioli but we’d have preferred chips to be honest but they weren’t on the menu – something just seems  better with steak and frites.

We also had the heritage tomato – sherry – miso – onion (£8) lovely colourful tomatoes with both sweetness and acidity.

sharing tiramisu

hazelnut tiramisu – praline – coffee – dulce de leche (£14) – the tiramisu is only available in a larger dish, designed to be shared. It was sprinkled with crushed hazelnuts so had a pleasantly nutty flavour and substantial crunch for a tiramisu, which was extremely moreish and decadent tasting.

tiramisu - clean plate!

The proof is the pudding they say and as you can see, it was devoured!

Cocktails at Lennox

Glasgow Manhattan cocktail - bourbon, Irn-Bru, vermouth, bitters

We had a Glasgow Manhattan (£12) to finish our meal, a strong boozy cocktail comprising bourbon whisky, Irn Bru, vermouth and bitters.

Signature serves include:

Spicy Melon – tequila, melon liqueur, jalapeño and citrus,  and,  Rhubarb and Custard – gin, prosecco, salted rhubarb and custard.

Sunday Roast at Lennox Glasgow

Lennox also offers a dedicated Sunday roast menu alongside a reduced à la carte selection. Both meat and vegetarian options are available, making it a strong contender for one of the best Sunday roasts in Glasgow’s West End, one we’ll need to return for

Final Thoughts on Lennox Glasgow

Lennox successfully moves away from the structured tasting-menu experience associated with Six by Nico and introduces something more relaxed, sociable and flavour-driven.

With its open-fire cooking, high-quality ingredients, creative small plates and impressive cocktail list, Lennox is set to become a standout dining destination on Byres Road.

Whether you’re looking for a special occasion restaurant in Glasgow, somewhere for sharing plates with friends, or one of the hottest new restaurant openings in Scotland, Lennox is worth booking now.
