Time for bread? Maybe keep that time for a lie in
It’s no secret that we like Germany and all things German so when we saw Zeit fur brot at Angel Islington, our hearts lept! Proper pretzel, maybe a schnittlauschbretzel?
Inside is scandi in decor, if they kept it a little more tidy it would look better I had to wait a good while before the tables were cleared of the ephemera of previous diners.
Just like in Germany, the goods are on display so you can point at your desired breaded good.
There are toasties and filled brioche buns available. Not like those I have seen in Germany – no schnittlauschbretzel (pretzel with butter and chives) and the buns were fluffier than those in Germany. No Streuseltaler either.
The bacon was delicious, melting smoked fat with a fried egg that is similar to those in a mcmuffin, spinach and tomato jam adding some sweetness.
Visit here instead and have a decent matcha and a cake.
Verdict
OK, wouldn’t rush back.
30p extra on everything for the pleasure of sitting at dirty tables.
Stick with the Lidl bakery, their bretzel is better, and cheaper.
