OLD COURSE HOTEL FOURTH FLOOR TRANSFORMATION ROOTED IN HERITAGE

The Old Course Hotel, Golf Resort & Spa proudly unveils the transformation of its iconic fourth floor. Set against the world-famous backdrop of the Old Course, the newly redesigned spaces celebrate Scottish craftsmanship, coastal beauty and warm local hospitality.

The hotel’s Road Hole Restaurant and Road Hole Bar have been thoughtfully renovated, offering luxury inspired by the coastal scenery of Fife, the ultimate destination for relaxed fine dining. With floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking its namesake, the Old Course’s legendary 17th hole, and framing panoramic views of West Sands beach, the interiors now match the breathtaking surroundings, led by acclaimed design firm Richmond International.

The space feels deeply connected to Scotland, using local materials, colours and craftsmanship wherever possible. The new colour palette features rich burgundies and draws on the warm golden sands of the beach, and ever-changing blues of the sea and sky.

Each of the dining and drinking spaces on the fourth floor boasts its own distinct identity, with menus carefully elevated to match the new surroundings – all routed in a true taste of Scotland. Road Hole Restaurant offers relaxed, elegant fine dining, with an open kitchen adding a sense of theatre. Guests can watch as talented chefs transform the finest local produce into signature dishes such as St Andrews Bay lobster ravioli and a French-inspired Vacherin dessert, made with strawberries from nearby Blacketyside farm.

Road Hold Bar remains the vibrant social heart of the hotel. By day, guests can enjoy aromatic coffees and light lunches, before the space transforms at twilight into a stylish destination for evening chatter and fine tipples. Whisky enthusiasts will feel right at home, with an extraordinary whisky collection of over 300 varieties from across Scotland, from the peaty expressions of Islay to the honeyed notes of Speyside and beyond.

Swilcan Loft continues to shine as a contemporary seafood bar and chophouse, with pared-back, modern interiors. An elevated take on surf and turf, serving outstanding local shellfish and prime cuts. Additionally, The Deck at Road Hole Bar opens for the summer season as the dreamiest spot for outdoor lounging. Snuggle up in intimate pods and cosy blankets under the twinkling lights, with a sweeping view over the vistas of West Sands Beach, the Old Course, and St Andrews, creating the perfect setting for memorable gatherings and sundowners with a drink in hand.

Completing the interior design refresh is the Boardroom, a versatile space designed for both corporate meetings and private dining experiences. The space features a soothing palette of cream woven wallpaper and artwork depicting dreamlike Scottish landscapes and reimagined floral forms, chosen to foster a calming connection between guests and their surroundings. Boasting what may be one of the most spectacular views from any boardroom in Scotland, guests can enjoy exceptional cuisine while taking in the breathtaking panorama views of Old Course and beyond.

Phyllis Wilkie, General Manager at Old Course Hotel said: “This renovation embodies our ethos of always evolving while remaining true to our roots. Our guests can savour both the landscape and cuisine that makes Scotland truly special and revel in the elevated, comfortable spaces that nod to our home in St Andrews, and give a true sense of place.”

“We’re not just renovating a space,” adds Wilkie, “we’re creating living narratives that connect our guests to the soul of Scottish heritage while delivering truly indulgent good times.”

The newly transformed fourth floor is now open to guests.
