Prince of India Pitlochry review: Indian food near Pitlochry station
If you are looking for an Indian restaurant in Pitlochry, Prince of India is a convenient option in the centre of town.
Found on Station Road, close to Pitlochry railway station and the main shopping area, the restaurant serves a broad menu of familiar curries, tandoori dishes, biryanis, starters and breads.
We stopped in for dinner during a visit to Pitlochry and ordered a mixture of old favourites, beginning with poppadoms before moving on to soup, cauliflower bhaji, curries, biryani and naan.
Prince of India Pitlochry menu
The menu offers plenty of choice, covering popular Indian restaurant dishes alongside chef’s specials, vegetable options, rice, naan and other sides. This makes it a useful choice if everyone in your group prefers a different level of spice or style of curry.
What we ate at Prince of India Pitlochry
We started with a couple of crisp poppadoms, served with the usual selection of accompaniments: spiced onions, chutney and cooling raita. It was a simple, familiar start to the meal and gave us something to nibble while choosing the rest of our food.
For starters, Mark chose the mulligatawny soup while I ordered the cauliflower bhaji. The soup was warming and comforting, just the sort of dish that suits a cool evening in Pitlochry.
The cauliflower bhaji was coated in a spiced mixture with onion and herbs, producing a savoury starter with plenty of flavour.
For the main course, we shared two curries and a naan. A garlic chilli chicken balti rrived in a small handled pan, with pieces of chicken onions, green chilli and fresh coriander in a dark, rich-looking sauce. The second, an oriental birianyi had a redder, tomato-based sauce and was also finished with coriander.
The biryani was colourful and generously portioned, with mixed meat with rice, vegetables, herbs and spices. A large naan completed the meal and was ideal for scooping up the remaining sauces.
Verdict
Prince of India offers a broad choice of familiar Indian dishes in a central Pitlochry location. Portions were generous, the menu had plenty of variety and the restaurant was handy for both the railway station and the town centre.
It is worth considering if you fancy a curry after a day exploring Pitlochry and Highland Perthshire.
