Mrs Foodie had the pleasure of being asked to assist in judging for the 2017 Butchers Q Guild Smithfield Awards, which will be held in London.

This involved two days of judging products such as Gluten-Free products, Traditional Pork Sausages, Speciality Sausages, Burgers, Ready-to-Eat Meat & Roasts, Bacon & Cured Products, Pies & Bakery – Hot, Pies & Bakery – Cold, Kitchen Ready Products, and Ready Meals.

Each category will see gold and silver Smithfield Award certificates issued.

Judges then decided on national finalists for each product category, who then had the opportunity to win a diamond award which is presented to individual category champions.

All of the diamond award winners  were then re-judged with one product crowned the overall Smithfield Awards supreme champion.

Winners will be announced at the awards presentation in Ironmongers Hall, London on 1st February 2017.

I am a member of the Guild of Food Writers and British Guild of Travel Writers.

We have a wide range of judging experience covering products, hotels and have judged, for example, for Great Taste Awards and Scottish Baker of the Year.

Along the way Mark gained WSET Level 2 in Wine and I have WSET Level 2 in Spirits as well as picking up an award with The Scotsman Food and Drink Awards.    

Usually I can be found sleeping beside a cat.
