Afternoon Cheese – afternoon tea at Golf View Hotel and Spa, Nairn

If you love cheese and afternoon tea, then this afternoon tea with a difference at Golf View Hotel and Spa in Nairn, is for you. The hotel, which isn’t far from the city of Inverness, has teamed up with Connage Highland Dairy for a savoury-inspired afternoon tea. (Click here to read about our stay at the hotel here).

We arrived suitably windswept after a walk along the promenade and through the hotel gardens. Our jackets were hung up and we were shown in to the conservatory with its view of the Moray Firth.

The Afternoon Cheese includes tea and coffee, and you can order an additional wine flight.

What’s included on Afternoon Cheese

Cold savoury treats at the top with a slider roll full of grated Dunlop cheddar and chutney; wraps lusciously filled with smoked salmon, crowdie and cucumber; and a couple of chicken and Clava Brie open mini baguettes.

The next layer was warm savoury treats with a Bonnet goat cheese with caramelised red onion, which was deliciously creamy and moreish even for non goat cheese lovers like us! The dinky Gouda croque monsieurs were our favourite. Moist, mustardy and gooey.

Underneath this layer was a perfectly balanced slightly sweet and cheesy scone with curls of butter. Alongside this a tart blackberry cheesecake, but wait, there is more – a platter of cheese, crackers, oatcakes, quince, chutney and grapes.

Some Blue Murder, ewes’ milk Corra Linn and cheddar. Cheese lovers heaven.

For an additional £16 per person, you can add on a paired drinks offering with a red (Chateau Rival, Bordeaux) and a white (Gavi, Casa Ernest) for the two savour layers of the Afternoon Cheese and a Taylor’s Port for the cheese platter.

What a spread! If you like a more savoury afternoon tea then this is one for you, usually there is never enough savoury items for me and too many desserts which you end up taking away and squashing them on the way home!
