The Spanish Butcher Sunday Roast for Presa Ibérico
Fancy a Sunday roast with a Spanish twist? The Spanish Butcher in Glasgow’s Merchant City brings a little Iberian luxury to the traditional Sunday lunch with luxe snacks, starters, sides and a showstopping 600g Presa Ibérico, a cut of tender pork from some of Spain’s finest pigs. This is the sister restaurant to The Butchershop near Kelvingrove Museum & Art Gallery in the west end of the city, and there is also a Spanish Butcher restaurant in Edinburgh’s New Town.

A stylish Sunday lunch in Glasgow
The Spanish Butcher is already known for its premium meat, stylish interiors and Spanish-inspired menu, so we were keen to see how they handled a Sunday roast.
This is not your usual pub roast, it’s a little more indulgent, with the comfort of a classic Sunday lunch but the flavour of a Spanish steakhouse.
The Spanish Butcher Sunday Roast menu

To start
We began with Gordal olives, big, juicy and full of flavour, alongside Galician sourdough. The bread had a good crust and soft centre, ideal for tearing and sharing – luckily, we had one each.

The jamón croquetas were a highlight. Crisp on the outside, creamy inside and packed with savoury ham flavour.

We also had Padrón peppers, blistered and salty, with the usual mild gamble of whether one might bring a little heat – something we’ve only ever actually experienced in Spain, but then this is the Spanish butcher.

Wine pairing
They have two sparkling wines by the glass, six reds, five whites, and two rosés. We had a glass of Bodegas Care Crianza Tempranillo – Merlot from Cariñena, Spain, which had aromas of leather and blackcurrant jam. It was off dry, but not too acidic, with an alcoholic Ribena taste and other dark fruit flavours, e.g. plum.
Our other wine was the Crios Malbec from Argentina. It had a leather and cedar aroma and was dry, very acidic and had a sour cherry taste.
The Spanish Butcher Sunday roast
The main event came with a homemade Yorkshire pudding, roasted cauliflower, crispy potatoes, peppers, green beans, carrots and a rich pan roast gravy.
The Yorkshire pudding was crisp around the edges with a softer centre. perfect for soaking up gravy, while the vegetables added colour and balance to the plate. The peppers gave the roast a Spanish edge without taking it too far from the Sunday lunch we all know and love.

600g Ibérico
The star of the meal was the 600g Presa Ibérico. Presa is a prized cut of Iberian pork, known for its marbling, tenderness and deep flavour.

Served as the centrepiece of the roast, it was rich and properly indulgent. The meat had a slightly nutty, savoury quality that makes Ibérico pork so special. You could be tempted to forget that it even is pork as it was so tender, juicy and steak-like.
Foodie Explorers verdict
The Spanish Butcher Sunday roast is ideal for if you fancy something a bit different from the usual beef, chicken or lamb offering. It keeps the essentials,Yorkshire pudding, gravy and roast vegetables but adds a polished Spanish twist.
This is a Sunday roast for a special lunch, a date day, or when you want comfort food with a little more style. All the food was excellent but very salty so bear that in mind if you are sensitive to sodium levels.
Would we go back? Yes. Especially for the jamón croquetas and Presa Ibérico.
