Paul Gunning to host exclusive Captain’s Table dinner aboard Fingal in Edinburgh

Award-winning Scottish chef Paul Gunning will host an intimate dining experience aboard Edinburgh’s luxury floating hotel, Fingal, on Friday 21 August 2026.

The one-night-only event is the latest in Fingal’s collaborative Captain’s Table dining series, with just ten places available.

Guests will be served a bespoke tasting menu created by Paul Gunning in partnership with Fingal’s head chef, Pedro Barreira. The dinner will take place around a communal table inside The Bridge, the ship’s former command room, which has been transformed into a private dining space.

The menu will showcase seasonal Scottish produce and seafood, combining modern cooking techniques with international influences and a strong focus on Scotland’s culinary heritage.

Who is Paul Gunning?

Paul Gunning is the chef patron of Purslane Restaurant in Edinburgh’s Stockbridge neighbourhood.

With more than 25 years of experience in professional kitchens, he is known for refined, seasonal cooking that places Scottish ingredients at the centre of each dish.

Paul opened Purslane in 2011 and has since developed a strong reputation for carefully crafted food, relaxed hospitality and ingredient-led menus.

During his career, he has worked in leading hotels and restaurants, including time under chef Marco Pierre White. He is also a co-owner of Dùthchas, an Edinburgh restaurant inspired by Scotland’s natural larder and culinary traditions.

Captain’s Table aboard Fingal

The Captain’s Table dinner will give guests the opportunity to dine in one of Fingal’s most distinctive spaces.

Once the working command room of the former Northern Lighthouse Board ship, The Bridge now offers an atmospheric setting overlooking the historic Port of Leith.

Only ten diners will be seated at the table, creating an intimate and sociable evening with the menu served as a shared culinary experience.

Paul Gunning’s Captain’s Table dinner costs £135 per person, with places available on a first-come, first-served basis.
