Lomond Hills Hotel – Budget accommodation within reach of St Andrews
St Andrews is lovely to visit and spend the day in, however, staying there can be expensive. We recently spent some time in St Andrews and then stayed overnight at Lomond Hills Hotel in Freuchie.
The hotel has recently been given a makeover, and as we all know refurbishments never go to plan. So that meant that the restaurant was out of service so no breakfast, however, we sorted that out with a visit to the nearby Gardeners Rest.
Check in was quick and easy, in no time we were in our room and relaxing.
Inside the room you will find fresh water, biscuits, tea, coffee and hot chocolate, TV, WiFi, hairdryer, desk, toiletries and controllable heating. I don’t know about you, but, I am either boiling or frozen so being able to open a window or switch on the heating is a bonus! The window just looked out onto a small courtyard so no great view from the room but we had light and air flow.

If you need to get away from your travel companion, then there is a lounge area with seating, both for working at and relaxing in. Alongside this are books and games to borrow.

If you enjoy socialising with a drink in your hand, the bar is just downstairs. No draught beer or cider options were installed yet, so only a small selection of bottled beer and cans of Guinness were available. The six nations rugby was playing on the TV during our visit.

Items provided by Fisher & Donaldson are also available should you have a sweet tooth or want a pie.
The hotel also has a swimming pool and leisure facilities, which we planned to try but decided to have a lie in instead. 😉

Getting there
We travelled by bus from St Andrews on the 59 bus to Glenrothes, which stops on the main road, just a 5-minute walk from the hotel. The 64 from St Andrews to Glenrothes also stops here but takes a longer route. The fastest public transport option is the x24, which stops a 20-minute walk away but the road to Freuchie from here is dark and mostly unlit at night.
