Suit you sir at Jackson the Tailor speakeasy in Edinburgh
Jackson the Tailor was once a nationwide chain of shops for the fashion-conscious amongst us. Being not so fashion conscious, we didn’t know about them, so we fell down a rabbit hole of Jackson the Tailor history and history of the Greenside area in Edinburgh.
A site we found was about the Quilietti family history, they have a page all about this area of Edinburgh, we would recommend a nosey around it. There are a couple of photos on the walls of Jackson the Tailor, so we tried to recreate one of them outside. Sadly we don’t have a drone to do the other one!
The old St James Centre is gone, with the new St James Quarter in its place.
Back to the present, you’ll find Jackson the Tailor downstairs from Newsroom, enter through the right hand side and follow the stairs down.
Stepping inside, this is what I expect a speakeasy to be like. It reminded me very much of Dry Martini Bar in Barcelona, where we drank some deliciously cold vermouth. Wooden panels, leather seating and that old school vibe. We felt at home and ready to enjoy some cocktails.
Live piano music can be found here on Friday and Saturdays, we’ll have to return for a listen.
Drinks Menu
After a look at the menu, I decided that not ordering a martini would be incredibly rude. So a Jacksons Vesper was ordered, Noily Prat Vermouth, Ketel One Vodka and Tanquery Gin. Refreshing. Mark ordered a Dark Typhoon with lime juice, passionfruit puree, Old Jamaica ginger beer, homey and Langs Mango and Ginger Rum. Another refreshing drink after a days shopping in Edinburgh.
For our next drinks, we watched the barman at work.
An Espresso Martini and Spritz Royale ordered this time. The Spritz Royale with Galanti Prosecco, Italicus Liqueur, Soda and Whitley Neil Blood Orange Gin. Espresso Martini with Vanilla Gomme, Ketel One Vodka, Espresso and Dead Man’s Fingers Coffee Tequila.
Cocktails where you can actually taste the ingredients!
We needed to check into our hotel for the night, it was hard to pull ourselves away from a full evening here, next time!
