Emma Budget accommodation in Edinburgh during the summer and Edinburgh Fringe
We travel to Edinburgh often to visit restaurants and events, and sometimes we must stay over as it would be too long to make it back home. Therefore we are always looking for budget accommodation in Edinburgh. Somewhere where we can safely leave our belongings, get a shower, a cuppa and get a decent sleep.
Edinburgh College Residence are located in Granton to serve the Granton Campus of Edinburgh College. Handily located at the junction of two directions of buses. Services range from Edinburgh Airport to Ocean Terminal in Leith in one direction and Gyle Shopping Centre, Royal Infirmary and Longstone in the other.
The bus stop from Edinburgh Airport was a 2 minute walk from the accommodation.
Check in was quick. There is a reception area, wifi, vending machine and an area where you can arrange to meet up with other friends who are staying here.
Up to our room. We’ve found that student accommodation is generally numbered in a way such as flat 8D. To find it you will be told what floor it is on. Once you have reached that floor, walk to flat 8, for example, open the door and you will find some more doors, these are the actual rooms.
There will also be another larger room which is the kitchen/lounge/dining for this set of apartments.
The kitchen had everything that we would need for a short stay. Fridge, cooker, microwave, even tea and coffee.
Back to the room. In the room we had a slightly bigger than single bed, cosy for two people. Towels and toiletries were provided.
The bathroom was compact, lacking in space to organise our toiletries, Ok for a couple of nights however I wouldn’t relish being a student here!
The temperature of the room was warm, even with the window wide open. So that hindered sleep a little. Thankfully we didn’t have any disturbance from outside or from fellow residents. If you like a firm pillow, you may want to bring one with you as they are flimsy.
Nearby you will find a Morrisons, Lidl and B&M for any shopping needs.
Verdict
A clean and tidy spot for an overnight stay within easy reach of Leith and Edinburgh city centre. Ideal for budget accommodation in Edinburgh.
