Eco-friendly Brandy for Christmas

Caru (meaning ‘love’ in Welsh) is a brandy liqueur with a difference.  I know, that sounds like it is just straight out of a press release but bear with us.  Welsh landscape architect, Emily, was working in the Valencian countryside during the lockdown.  Missing her family at Christmas, she wanted to create something that would remind her of home, family and all things cosy in South Wales.

What started as a lockdown project, soon became refined brandy liqueur worth sharing.  Emily teamed up with Master distiller, Dr John Walters,  originally from the Gower in Swansea, to perfect her vision.  Caru is distilled at the national and international award-winning distillery, English Spirit, which distil, barrell, bottle, and post Caru all from one location.  Caru comes elegantly packaged in biodegradable and recyclable materials, minimising plastic waste.

Tasting Notes

Nose – sweet tastes of alcohol-soaked raisins, vanilla and orange.  All the aromas of Christmas.

Palate – Thick and luxurious, coating the mouth beautifully.  Lots of orange, chocolate and vanilla here.

Finish – A sumptuous long finish which made us reach for another sip.

We both liked this one, perfect on its own over the rocks or in an old-fashioned.  It’s almost too good to mix, but when drinking it we couldn’t help but think of lux hot chocolate, drizzled-over ice cream and all sorts of decadent Christmas fun.
