Best breakfast in London?
After a promise of “breakfast at The Ritz” here, we eventually got there, hurrah! The Ritz has always been one of the places on the to-do list.
Opening on 25th May 1906, this grand neoclassical structure on Piccadilly in the heart of Mayfair soon became the place to be seen. So a trip to London, where else for breakfast, The Ritz!
If you look closely at the image above, you will see craters in the stonework. These were caused not by World War Two bombs, the hotel escaped these, but a bombing in 1975. On Thursday 9 October 1975, a bomb attack took place just outside Green Park Underground station which left one man dead and injured 20 others. The attack was carried out by the Provisional IRA. The bomb was thrown at the bus stop just outside Green Park Underground station, but was originally intended for The Ritz Hotel.
A look into The Palm Court at The Ritz Hotel. This is where afternoon tea is served, next time 😉
The Ritz Restaurant Breakfast Menu
A choice of continental and English Breakfast is on offer.
A healthy breakfast with fruit, Scottish smoked salmon, muesli and avocado or maybe a prestige breakfast with Perigord truffles, or some caviar.
Further breakfast suggestions include Eggs Benedict, Avocado Benedict, Oak Smoked Scottish Salmon with scrambled eggs, Poached Smoked Haddock with Poached Egg, Smoked Haddock Kedgeree, Grilled Kippers, Steak and American style Pancakes.
Ambience
As you can see, the ambience here is decadent. You are surrounded by luxury and service to match.
Food
We chose to have an English breakfast as well as an Eggs Benedict. To start, our waiter provided a selection of items from the continental breakfast buffet.
The full English breakfast. Two eggs, cooked to your preference, Cumberland Sausage, back bacon, mushroom and tomato. Superb quality ingredients, cooked to show them off with lots of flavour, especially the Cumberland sausage.
Onto the eggs benedict. Warm bacon, none of the cold and chewy ham here. Crisp bacon with plump poached eggs coated in hollandaise sauce with a couple of freshly cooked asparagus spears as well. For someone who is pernickety about their poached eggs, pass with merit here.
