Emma Mykytyn Eden Mill launches rare Distiller’s Cask Release #1 whisky
Eden Mill has unveiled Distiller’s Cask Release #1, the first in a new series of single cask single malts personally selected by Head Distiller Scott Ferguson.
The debut release is an 8-year-old lightly peated single malt matured in an ex-Amarone red wine cask from Northern Italy. Bottled at batch strength of 53.2% ABV, this limited-edition whisky has an outturn of just 311 bottles.
A rare peated Eden Mill single malt
Distiller’s Cask Release #1 is made from 100% peated malted barley, with peat sourced from St Fergus in Aberdeenshire. The spirit sits at a phenol level of 20 to 30 PPM, giving it a gentle smoky character rather than an overpowering peat hit.
The release is especially rare as only around 5% of the casks filled at Eden Mill’s original distillery held peated spirit. Of those, just two were filled into Amarone wine casks, making this a particularly unusual bottling for whisky fans and Eden Mill collectors.
Amarone cask influence
The ex-Amarone red wine cask brings richness and depth to the whisky, layering notes of black cherry and dark chocolate over floral peat smoke. Expect a full-bodied dram with a long, lingering finish.
