Ryanair changes airport check-in and bag drop times from November 2026
Anyone flying with Ryanair later this year will want to keep an eye on the clock, as the airline is changing its airport check-in and bag drop cut-off times.
From 10 November 2026, Ryanair says its airport check-in and bag drop desks will close 60 minutes before scheduled departure, instead of the current 40-minute cut-off. The airline says this is to give passengers with checked luggage more time to get through airport security and passport queues, especially during busy travel periods.

What is changing?
At the moment, Ryanair’s airport check-in and bag drop closes 40 minutes before departure. From November, that will increase to 60 minutes. It is a small change on paper, but it could make a big difference for anyone who is used to arriving close to the cut-off.
If you are checking in a suitcase, you will need to leave extra time at the airport. Missing the new bag drop deadline could mean missing your flight, so it is worth building in a bit more time than before.
Who does this affect?
According to Ryanair, this mainly affects the 20% of passengers who check in a bag. The airline says the remaining 80% of passengers already check in online and travel without checked luggage, so they will be unaffected by the change.
For hand luggage only travellers, the usual routine stays the same: check in online before arriving at the airport and head through security to your departure gate. For anyone travelling with hold luggage, this new one-hour deadline is the important bit to remember.
Why has Ryanair made this change?
Ryanair says the earlier airport check-in and bag drop closure is designed to help passengers clear security and passport queues in good time and reduce the small number of travellers who miss their departure because of delays inside the airport.
The airline also says it is installing more self-service bag drop kiosks across its network, with more than 95% of airports expected to have them by October 2026. These kiosks will be integrated with the Ryanair app, allowing passengers to check in bags and print bag tags more quickly.
What this means for travellers
If you are flying Ryanair and checking a bag, it is worth arriving earlier than you may have done before. Airports can already be stressful enough without racing the clock, and this updated deadline means less room for error.
For a smoother trip, make sure you:
- check in online before leaving for the airport
- allow extra time if you are dropping off checked luggage
- have travel documents ready before joining queues
- head to bag drop as soon as you arrive
It is a straightforward change, but one that could catch regular Ryanair passengers out if they are used to the old 40-minute cut-off. If you have a trip booked for late 2026, it is one to note now.
Foodie Explorers tip
We would always recommend arriving with plenty of time to spare, especially if you are travelling during school holidays, weekends, or from a busy airport. A little extra time at the start of a trip is much better than a last-minute sprint through the terminal.
