Review of Sunday Roast at Angel’s Share Edinburgh
Growing up we didn’t have a Sunday Roast, we had the Sunday papers, Mortons rolls and a full Scottish breakfast. It wasn’t until I moved down to London that I embraced the world of the Sunday Roast. I had a lot to choice, from a Toby Carvery to the fabulous SW16 roast, which you can read about here.
Since moving back home, the Sunday Roast has gained popularity in Scotland with pork, lamb, beef or chicken, with all the trimmings including roast potatoes and Yorkshire puddings.
We were invited to enjoy a Sunday Roast at Angel’s Share in Edinburgh’s New Town, and having visited before to try their ‘Address to a Haggis’, we looked forward to indulging in their Sunday lunch.

The bar is the focus of the room here, showcasing an array of drinks. Angel’s Share Bar specialises in whisky, but if you’re not a whisky drinker then there are plenty of beers, wines and cocktails etc. to choose from.

Seating options include booths, regular tables and chairs, and high tables – so something for dining, cocktails and catching up with friends.
During our visit, at 2pm, live background music was provided by a guitarist playing tunes from the likes of The Beatles and Ben E King, which was ideal for a relaxed Sunday lunch.
Menu
We were here for their Sunday Roast specifically, so what’s in it…it is 28 Day Dry Aged Beef, roast potatoes, buttered greens, roast carrots and parsnips, cauliflower cheese, Yorkshire puddings and gravy. A sharing roast is £40 in total, while a Single serving is £21pp.

You can also order sides like haggis pakora and Irn Bru chilli jam or haggis poutine. We decided the sharing roast was probably enough so forwent the starters and sides.

In no time, our sharing roast was delivered. On the tray was four thick slices of beef, green beans and broccoli, cauliflower and broccoli cheese, carrots, parsnips, two Yorkshire puddings each and two gravy jugs.

Here’s a close up of the beef. Succulent, tender and moreish…not that we needed more with this portion!

The vegetables were perfectly cooked, although it could have been a little warmer. The cauliflower cheese was cheesy, however, the sauce was on the runny side.
To go alongside the Sunday roast we chose two wines by the glass. Villa dei Fiori Montepulciano d’Abruzzo £8.50, and The Paddock Shiraz £8.
Verdict
A tummy filling meal, which was enjoyed by both of us.
Lashings of gravy to top the array of veggies and the flawlessly cooked slices of roast beef.
