We love a dark beer in this house, so we picked a selection of some of the new beers on offer from The Wee Beer Shop, not far from where we live. Simple Things Fermentations’ 2025 Belgian Christmas Ale embraces both the festive light and the wintery dark, with Chocolate malt and a Belgian-style fermentation combining to bring notes of cherry liqueur chocolates and coffee. Almost black in colour but light on the palate with a smooth, fruity finish; it slips down like Santa on an icy garden path.

Miracle On Marshmallow Mountain is a rich, sumptuous porter packed full of flavours.
