Top curry restaurants are in the pink this December – raising money to fight breast cancer.

Itihaas in Dalkeith and The Radhuni in Loanhead, on the outskirts of Edinburgh, will donate 50 pence to The Pink Ribbon Foundation for every customer dining there during the month.

In October The Radhuni was voted Scotland’s Curry Restaurant of the Year by trade magazine Curry Life and Matin Khan, founder and Executive Chef of both restaurants, was named the country’s top Curry Chef.

The Pink Ribbon Foundation is a grant making trust which funds projects and provides financial support to UK charities helping people suffering from breast cancer or work to advance early detection and treatment.

“We’re honoured that Itihaas and The Radhuni are backing our work in such a meaningful way,” said The Foundation’s Lisa Allen. “The festive season is all about giving, gathering and sharing special moments with family and friends. The kindness shown by their customers and the dedication of their owners and staff will touch many lives at a time of year when community and compassion matter most.”

One person every 10 minutes – a total of 55,000 a year – is diagnosed with breast cancer in the UK. One in seven women will be diagnosed with it in their lifetime.

The Pink Ribbon Foundation has helped 300 breast cancer charities, many operating on a small budget.

Habibur Khan, Managing Partner of Itihaas and The Radhuni, said: “Each Christmas we select a partner who can make a real difference to people’s lives. We know our loyal customers will be generous in their support, especially over the Christmas and New Year period when many people’s thoughts will turn to loved ones they have lost through cancer.

“By and large, breast cancer is a curable disease and doctors and scientists have had a lot of success in diagnosis and treatment but further progress relies to a large extent on fundraising by organisations like The Pink Ribbon Foundation.”
