La Tasca, Renfield Street, Glasgow – February 2012

It’s been a long long time since I was last in a La Tasca, mainly due to it looking like a chain, being rather dull looking and me thinking hmm chain tapas er no!

Thankfully, myself and some other food bloggers were invited along to see their new look and menu, what a difference.  Bright walls, funky lights and some delicious looking food on the menu.  There are still candles and cosiness but not so dull looking now.

An impressive sangria menu ( Tradicional, Rose, Fruity Fizz, Cava as well as sangria of the day) entice you as soon as you reach the bar. My only gripe would be the amount of lemonade, not very Spanish and therefore a bit weak, i like my Sangria to taste of wine 😉

£3.60 – £4.60 a glass or £12.95 – £16.95 a jug.

expertly carved Jamon Serrano in the restaurant, i hope they do this and the jamon isn’t just for show.

Mid munching through the Spanish Rustic Bread Board £2.80

ciabatta, onion and olive, crunch torta from Seville – served with extra virgin olive oil and sherry vinegar dip.  The dip complimented the fusion of tastes from the bread, some punch packing flavours in there.

More mid munch plates, Vegetable Gratin (Creamy potato gratin with baby spinach and blue valdeon cheese (£3.70)

Festival of Mushrooms (chestnut, button and porcini mushrooms sauteed in garlic butter and white wine (£3.80), very nice tasting mushrooms (but!, a bit steep for some good ole musshies)

remains of Patatas Bravas £2.95

I would heartily recommend the Pork Belly – mouthwatering and slow cooked to perfection, the fat broke apart with ease.

Churros for two £5.95, churros, strawberries and marshmallows – romance!, dark chocolate with it, would be nice to have the option of dark or milk chocolate (Had some very nice thick chocolate in Spain and having this would be good)

It was good to give feedback direct to the management at this event and to try some different things without it hitting our pockets.  Picking wisely off the menu you would have some imaginative food.  An idea for them would be to have nights where you could try carving the ham and finding out about where the food is from, but then it is a chain and you get what’s you pay for.   Ear plugs might be handy for the Enrique Inglesias (there are other spanish musicians out there!)

Overal Minus – music, watery sangria (less lemonade please!), expensive base dishes Plus –  friendly staff, padron peppers, various sites over the country.

*night provided by PR company of La Tasca.  Morals chucked out the window for the night, but I still expect good, well priced food!
