Elgin’s Glen Moray Distillery has just launched two small-batch single malts that push its “cask explorer” ethos into bold new territory. The latest releases — Glen Moray Tequila Cask Finish and Glen Moray Peated Tequila Cask Finish — join the award-winning Warehouse 1 Collection and mark the distillery’s very first experiments with Tequila cask maturation.
Crafted with natural colour, bottled at cask strength, and non-chill filtered, these distinctive drams promise something special for both peat enthusiasts and admirers of Glen Moray’s signature smooth, fruity Speyside character — perfect for festive gifting.
Tasting Notes
2014 Tequila Cask Finish
- Nose: Soft vanilla custard layered with currants and toasted almonds
- Palate: Earthy depth balanced with fresh thyme and a hint of citrus
- Finish: Spicy intensity mellowing into aged leather and polished oak
- ABV: 55.2% | Natural colour | Non-chill filtered
2014 Peated Tequila Cask Finish
- Nose: Fragrant rose petals, dark chocolate, smoked thyme
- Palate: Smooth and gentle, with flavours of roasted bananas and hazelnuts
- Finish: Lingering sweetness underscored by glowing embers
- ABV: 58.5% | Natural colour | Non-chill filtered
These editions highlight Glen Moray’s ongoing passion for exploring how different casks shape whisky flavour. The Tequila Cask Finish spent eight years in Bourbon casks before being refined in Tequila barrels, creating a dram with layered sweetness that enhances the distillery’s fruity style. By contrast, the Peated Tequila Cask Finish began as lightly peated spirit, also matured for eight years in Bourbon wood before Tequila finishing, producing a luxurious whisky with notes of dark chocolate and smoked banana.

Warehouse 1 Collection
Warehouse 1 — the distillery’s iconic blue warehouse — is home to Glen Moray’s most experimental casks. Releases from this collection are rare, collectible and celebrated worldwide. Previous expressions have included Rioja, Amarone, Amontillado, Oloroso, Barolo, Tokaji, Manzanilla and Sauternes finishes, each offering a unique interpretation of the classic Speyside style.
