A new neighbourhood bar has arrived in Glasgow’s Southside, and we stopped by for a look at Next Door, the latest opening from the team behind The Corner Shop in Yorkhill.

Located in the former Marchtown premises at 741 Pollokshaws Road, Next Door is a welcome addition to this busy part of Strathbungo, joining the growing collection of independent bars, cafés and restaurants found around Pollokshaws Road.

From The Corner Shop to Next Door

Next Door comes from the team responsible for The Corner Shop, which opened in Yorkhill in April 2025.

The original restaurant quickly built a strong reputation for its creative food, friendly service and dishes influenced by places such as northern Spain and southern France. It has since received several accolades, including New Business of the Year at the SLTN Awards.

Rather than simply recreating The Corner Shop in another part of Glasgow, the team has developed a different concept for its Southside venue.  Next Door has been designed as a cocktail bar with a strong neighbourhood feel.  The venue occupies a prominent corner position on Pollokshaws Road, close to Queen’s Park and the independent businesses of Strathbungo.

Inside, the space feels suited to everything from a quick drink before dinner to a longer evening of cocktails.  It is stylish but still relaxed enough to work as a local bar — somewhere you could visit for an after-work cocktail, a weekend catch-up or drinks before exploring more of Glasgow’s Southside.

Weapon of choice – Ketel One Vodka, Vermouth with a Gibson finish.  Well-balanced and colourful due to their homemade pickle sauce.

Mark tried a Dookit beer, Southside Pale, Hazy, spiced orange zest aroma, erbal, apricot taste followed by grapefruit bitterness.

Having time, we also tried a cheeky glass of NV Xinomavro Sparkling Brut from Greece, which tasted like Cremant. Dry and acidic with lots of apple and pear flavour.

Verdict

We loved it and certainly will be back for more chilled vibes and cocktails.
