What we ate and drank at Our Place Annan
Mark had a beer, as usual, soft drinks for me as I was driving, next time I’ll check out the mocktails!
First starter, salmon cheesecake. A savoury base topped with herby cream cheese, avocado and smoked salmon roses. A healthy portion of food for a starter, two thicker-than-expected slices of smoked salmon matched perfectly with the creamy cheese layer.
Mark embraced the winter weather and picked the soup of the day, which was lentil soup. Thick, smooth and ideal for the weather
Both of these were good portions, just like home. Would we make it to dessert?
Steak pie served with a choice of champ, chips or new potatoes and seasonal vegetables.
A healthy piece of puff pastry atop thick chunks of beef. Seriously, look at those chunks. I know I’ve said it before, but healthy portion alert number two here. Tender and moist beef in a thick and lux gravy. Perfectly cooked vegetables and puff that was puffy but didn’t collapse all over the place.
Sunday roast for the Mark with some roast beef, vegetables, roast potatoes and champ. Another good portion of food. Cleo will be getting a bonus meal brought in for her! Tender roast beef, creamy champ and crisp roasties, perfect.
We made it to dessert, just. We had to get a to-go bag for the main courses (Cleo approved extras). Gooseberry and apple treacle crumble tart served with a choice of ice cream, custard, or cream. Being a cold night, I picked custard, and I’d recommend you do the same. The soft and juicy gooseberry and apple layer contrasted deliciously with the buttery and crunchy crumble.
Trillionaire slice with seasonal berries. Chocolate, caramel and calories…yum!
Verdict
After much driving and exploring Galloway, a meal at Our Place in Annan was the perfect end to a foodie weekend: welcoming staff, relaxed vibe and hearty portions of comforting food.
The leftovers were also Cleo approved 🙂
