Emma Kennet Crayfish Gin has won a sliver medal in The World Gin Awards 2025
Kennet Crayfish Gin is made using distilled crayfish claw shells from wild American Signal Crayfish, sustainably caught in the chalk stream waters of the River Kennet in Berkshire.
Carolyn Bennett, CMO of the Kennet Crayfish Company, explains: “We are delighted to have gained recognition for our gin in the prestigious World Gin Awards by winning a Silver Medal. The sweetness and depth of flavour engendered by the oil from the crayfish claws provides a botanical that smooths the alcohol and enhances the flavour of the other botanicals of lemon, dill and watercress. This creates a unique, premium craft gin which is fresh, sweet and delivers a beautiful citrus and herbaceous complexity. Because of its smooth taste, it can be drunk as a sipping gin as well as making a fine G and T and a perfect Negroni.”
Crayfish trapping and processing is highly regulated because Signal Crayfish, trapped in the UK under license, are an invasive species that is harmful to the river environment, native species and other river dwellers. Culling their numbers helps protect the Kennet, which is a rare and important habitat.
