Lumo launches new Stirling to London train service
Low-cost rail operator Lumo has launched its first direct train service between Stirling and London, giving central Scotland a new budget-friendly rail link to the capital.
The new route connects Stirling with London Euston, travelling via stops including Larbert, Greenfaulds, Whifflet, Motherwell, Carlisle, Preston and Crewe. For some stations, including Greenfaulds and Whifflet, this marks the first direct rail connection to London.
A new budget rail option from Scotland to London
Lumo is already known for its low-cost East Coast services between Scotland and London, and this new West Coast route gives passengers another alternative to flying, driving or taking the coach.
Introductory fares are expected to make the service particularly attractive for leisure travellers, students and anyone looking for a cheaper way to travel between Scotland and London.
Tickets start from just £29.90 between London Euston and Stirling. Travelling from London to Preston starts from just £23.90 and Preston to Stirling from an impressive £14.90.
How long does the Stirling to London Lumo train take?
The first service leaves Stirling at 8.50 in morning and arrives at London Euston at 3 in the afternoon. Journey times are expected to improve in the coming months, with the route potentially becoming faster as operational changes are introduced.
Lumo plans to increase the service gradually, with up to four return trains per day between Stirling and London expected once the route is fully established.

The company has indicated that it hopes to move towards more sustainable electric-battery hybrid trains in future.
Why this route matters
The new Lumo Stirling to London train service gives passengers in central Scotland another direct route to London and increases competition on the West Coast Main Line.
For travellers looking for a lower-cost alternative to flying, this route could become a useful option, especially if journey times are reduced and more daily services are added.
Final thoughts
With direct trains from Stirling to London, affordable fares and more services planned, Lumo’s new route could be a welcome addition for Scottish travellers. It opens up easier access to London for towns across central Scotland and adds another choice for anyone planning a rail trip south.
