Spirit of Speyside (Speyside Sessions)
Scotland’s highest profile whisky festival is pulling out all the stops for Whisky Month, enhancing its much loved music strand to encompass more gigs in more places, popping up in distilleries, church halls and pubs across Speyside, all brought together under the banner of ‘Speyside Sessions’. Expect names you know to be rubbing up against the best new talent in what will be a music festival like no other in a glorious marriage of music, whisky set against the awe-inspiring surroundings of Speyside.

The National Piping Centre Whisky Tasting Evenings
This new event will highlight the deep seeded connection between Scottish traditional music and whisky. Throughout May, The National Piping Centre will run 4 events as part of Homecoming Scotland 2014’s Whisky Month. These will consist of an evening in The Pipers’ Tryst Restaurant with a highland piper on the door, canapé drinks reception with a welcome dram, three course dinner which will be paired with three whiskies, specifically chosen by their ambassador from William Grant and Sons. The evening will conclude with a music session from some of the most exciting new music acts on the folk scene, specifically focusing on piping music.

*Whisky Pairing and Piping Events * *At The National Piping Centre, Glasgow* Throughout the month of May The National Piping Centre are holding their whisky pairing and piping evenings. These are small, unique dinners sponsored by *William Grant & Sons* as part of Homecoming Scotland 2014. The four special events will highlight the deep seeded connection between *Scottish traditional music* and whisky. Whisky Pairing and Piping dinners will consist of an evening in The Pipers' Tryst Restaurant with a *highland piper* on the door, canapé drinks reception with a welcome dram, *three course dinner* which will be paired with three whiskies, specifically chosen by our ambassador from William Grant and Sons. The Angels Craft
The Angels Craft at Eden Brewery will celebrate the growing trend in brewing Whisky-flavoured craft beer – created using whisky casks and other waste products from the whisky making processes, producing a distinctly Scottish beer. There will be ‘virtual tasting’ and special events with leading experts and bloggers explaining the intricacies of brewing whisky beer.

Join SMWS for a sensory feast as they open their private Edinburgh Members’ Rooms doors (and bottles) during Whisky Month. Open to all, the Society is hosting a kaleidoscope of food and drink experiences with some of Scotland’s finest producers. Discover the world’s widest selection of single cask, rare whisky playfully linked with Scottish clans – find your kindred spirit. They will also be upping the ante for the official World Whisky Day on 17 May, showcasing the very finest in Scottish food, beer, cocktails and whisky by some of the country’s best producers.

Whisky Galore Tour
A country-wide 20 date tour of Mull Theatre’s phenomenally successful reimagining of ‘Whisky Galore’ by Compton Mackenzie and adapted by Paul Godfrey. This unique take on the comic masterpiece is staged as an affectionate parody of the glory days of Radio Drama, as if in front of a live studio audience who will find themselves involved in the drama as things don’t go quite to plan. Premiering in Mull then embarking on a month-long tour across Scotland, Whisky Galore is a brilliantly hilarious, captivating and ingenious retelling of a much loved tale.

Jazz and a Dram
(Isle of Bute Jazz Festival)
Jazz and a Dram is a new event for the long established and ever popular Isle of Bute Jazz Festival, a programme of concerts combining the very best in jazz with the tastiest whisky from that region with a focus on the distilleries of Campbeltown. The venues for these new events will be The Victoria and The Esplanade Hotels on the evening of 3rd and 4th of May respectively.
Springbank Distillery will introduce you to the complexities of Scotch Whisky, letting you savour a variety of their special single malts distilled at the oldest independent family owned distillery in Scotland. The tasting will match the great dinner menus on offer which will also feature our excellent local produce such as Ritchie’s of Rothesay famous smoked salmon, local hand dived scallops and langoustines taken from Rothesay Bay.

Exel Home of Whisky Festival 2014
Celebrate Perthshire’s rich whisky heritage at Perth’s first ever whisky festival on Saturday 3 May! Brought to you by Exel Wines in the Salutation Hotel, Perth from 12 noon until 5pm – the festival will offer an opportunity to enjoy a dram tasting experience showcasing whisky production not only in Perthshire, but throughout Scotland. With free dram tokens, in-depth tasting master classes, a free tasting glass and some of the most knowledgeable whisky experts and guest speakers in the industry, this festival is set to be both informative and enjoyable.

Whisky, Words and Wisdom… …an insight on Uisge Beatha
In May this year the team at Scotland’s most southerly distillery will be joining forces with the owners of Wigtown’s bookshops to celebrate the ‘Spirit of the Lowlands’ in a month long Whisky, Words and Wisdom Festival. The Association of Wigtown Booksellers holds a festival each May welcoming visitors to explore local history, storytelling and literature through the delightful mixture of shops packed to the ceiling with new and second hand titles from the past and present. This year, the year of Homecoming Scotland, the eclectic mix of readings, talks, music and storytelling will combine with a celebration of local food and drink, focusing on whisky or in the gaelic Uisge Beatha.

Loch Fyne Food Fair
One of the West Coast’s leading food fairs with stalls showcasing eth very best food and drink Argyll has to offer. For the very first time there will be a section dedicated to exploring the connections between whisky and food, from using whisky in cooking, what whiskies go with what food to even using by-products from the whisky industry such as smoking food with chips from whisky barrels. Engaging, informative, fun and tasty, Loch fine Food Fair will celebrate the diverse uses of whisky and its role alongside Scottish food in developing and growing the culinary traditions of Scotland.

Highland Perthshire Whisky Festival
Three of Highland Perthshire’s leading arts organisations are joining forces to create a new festival built around the themes of Whisky Month. In a first, Birnam Arts, The Birks Cinema and Pitlochry Festival Theatre are working together to create a full programme of events from film screenings, exhibitions and talks to a new production of the musical ‘Whisky Kisses’ . A major new event for the area and a fantastic addition to the Whisky Month programme.

Edinburgh’s Whisky Stramash
Celebrating Scotland’s national drink, the two-day experiential event, which takes place on 24th and 25th May, will once again take over the famous Surgeon’s Hall located on the cobbled streets in the heart of the city’s historic Old Town. It is designed to appeal to consumers with an appetite for adventure, as well as whisky purists open to intrigue.
