Chef Dean Banks has been busy. After launching Haar at Home, a seafood-focused fine dining home delivery service during the lockdown in 2020, which we have written about here and then again just before Christmas here. The Fife-based chef has now launched a second home delivery food service. This time, with an emphasis on beef, specifically wagyu, the fatty, melt-in-the-mouth marbelled meat from Japanese cattle that is considered by many to be the finest in the world. Wagyu is pretty rare in this part of the world so we have only eaten it on a few occasions previously (strangely not Japan which we have visited but rather Flat Iron in London, Burger Bar in Amsterdam and Ynyshir in Wales!) and it’s usually pretty expensive too but Waagyu Burger is here to bring you luxury at an affordable price.

So the wagyu is top-notch but so is the rest, with the bacon coming from John Henderson butchers in Glenrothes and the brioche buns are made by Barnett’s bakery in Anstruther, while all the sauces and garnishes are made by the Haar / Waagyu chefs.

Fred was intrigued by the delivery from the get-go

Arriving in a clearly-marked safe and secure box and kept chilled inside, thanks to foil and disposable ice packs.

Verdict

Messy, juicy and flavoursome. These are the best burgers we have eaten in a long time, easily the best of 2020.

The burger kit costs £39.95 normally but order now for the introductory price of £29.95, simply use the code ‘DONTHAVEACOW‘ when ordering. The kit makes 4 burgers, so £7.50 each for not just restaurant-quality but restaurant-quality burgers made with meat from world-famous beef that isn’t on the menu in most burger restaurants is actually bloody-good value.

Delivery is nationwide and you can also add beer, cocktails and desserts to your order. Deliveries are every Thursday between 8am – 8pm, currently available until the end of March. Once your order arrives, put the contents in your fridge and they will keep good for a further 2 days so you can enjoy the burgers over the course of a few days.

Fred purr of honour

Disclaimer: Fred sez you’d be stoopid to pass up the introductory price of £29.95 on these tender burgers. We received our burgers for free but Fred sez he would happily pay for 4 more, even though he doesn’t use cash, or the internet.
