#totalfoodgeeksglasgow meet up at The Arches, Glasgow

Anything Edinburgh can do Glasgow can do better… well we hope!  Inaugural meet up of a band of bloggers who like their food (and drink!) in The Arches thanks to the organisation skills of @Scotslarder and the culinary skills of @chefski27.

The choice on the menu left me speechless (for once!) but eventually plumped for

Rabbit and Ham Hough Battenburg with Sage Crisps and Cider and Honey Jelly.    I love ham hough, it is a much neglected piece of Scottish food history.  This dish certainly did it justice.  The Sage melted in the mouth but gave the ham a nice kick, the jelly dissolved into honey goodness :).

The man had the Coconut and Carrot Soup (as he is a soup fiend),

soup tasted good, as carrot soup but I couldn’t really taste the coconut or get anything from the chilli oil either, bread wasn’t the freshest 🙁

Part two, Cairnhill farm roasted chump of lamb with pistachio dauphinoise, confit shallots and baby turnips with a Bitter and Twisted ale jus.  Pinky lamb with a strong jus, the dauphinoise was cooked perfectly so a happy me 🙂

Pan seared mackerel fillet with glazed beetroot, cauliflower and horseradish mousse, seaweed and spring onion and rapeseed dressing

the man said mackerel was lovely, cooked just right, button beetroots were cute but again horseradish was subtle, i like strong flavours!

With a title like Chocolate Nemisis I couldn’t not order that. Never had bee pollen before and it was an interesting decoration on the chocolate shard, as well as giving a warm honey vibe.  The nemisis itself, wow.  Im not a big chocolate cake fan however…..it was like eating a  spanish hot chocolate that’s gone cold.  Thick, velvety chocolate that melts in your mouth.

Tart was very nice, ice cream, lovely but the best bit was the unusual “tart” taste from the balsamic

Well done Chef!
