The Real Junk Food Project – Edinburgh

The Real Junk Food Project will be Union of Genius from 11am this Sunday 15th March (and run fortnightly)

Using 100% food surplus on a strictly Pay-As-You-Feel (PAYF) basis, the cafes run by the project  have intercepted close to 50 tonnes of food and fed thousands of people.

The Real Junk Food project intercept food from suppliers and farms which they can’t sell and would normally get binned, they cook it and sell it at ‘Pay as You Feel’ events.

All  procedes are going back into the project to help eventually set up a permanent premises.  Last event saw around 80 customers pass through the cafe buying soups, stews and some baked goods.

We have a wide range of judging experience covering products, hotels and have judged, for example, for Great Taste Awards and Scottish Baker of the Year.

Along the way Mark gained WSET Level 2 in Wine and I have WSET Level 2 in Spirits as well as picking up an award with The Scotsman Food and Drink Awards.
