The Lodge at Portavadie – March 2012

Located at the end of a single track road in the picturesque Cowal area is Portavadie.  Long ignored, it is hoped that the Marina will inject some life into the area.    The Lodge at Portavadie has  a log fire, tv and very comfortable couches to sit on as well as the tables for dining on.

On the tables are menu leaflets and pencils to tick the boxes of what you require, you can have breakfast (8-10am daily), lunch (12-3pm daily, sat/sun until 5pm) and supper (5:30 – 8pm daily).  Items range from Soup and bread (£3.95) to toasted sandwiches (£6.50 for aged cheddar and roast beef) to supper dishes of fish and chips (£9:50)

We went for the Loch Fyne Seafood selection (£7:95) and Scottish Artisan Cheese selection (£7.95)

Fresh, moist and delicious.  I liked the apricots added to the cheeseboard and the amount of cheese, very happy here.    The loch fyne fish board came with caper berries which went very well with the sliced smoked salmon.

Service was friendly and unobtrusive and the toilets had the added touch of arran aromatics soap which was good to see more local goods being used.

Loch fyne beers also served as well as the usual teas/coffees and wines.
