The Hollies, 4 Station Rd, Prestwick, Ayrshire KA9 1AQ Review

The hollies Bedroom

Luxury Accommodation at a price you can afford!

We were looking for a break, somewhere not too far away but with some sand, sea and hopefully entertainment – I think we found it in Prestwick!

The Hollies is situated on Station road, just between the main street and Prestwick railway station funnily enough! So it’s very easy to get there without a car and Prestwick golf course, where the first Open golf championships was held, is a mere 5 minute walk away, in fact the Hollie’s is within walking distance of everything in town.

Our host, Helen, was full of information on where to go, what to do and how to relax.  Not knowing much about Prestwick, apart from the Airport, this was a godsend!

The room was impressive with a huge comfy bed.  For a B&B of this costing, we were more than happy with the décor, facilities and care taken to make sure that we had everything we needed.  There were even home made cupcakes ready for a cup of tea – bliss after the 45 minute train journey from Glasgow.

The bathroom was kitted out with Sea Kelp soap and moisturiser, as well as robes and a lovely big bath.  Ms Foodie  is a bit of a bath fan; the bigger the better.  She was very happy with this one – big enough for a swim!

We went out for the evening to check out the local fun (check HERE for our guide to Prestwick) and returned to use the pantry that is provided in the breakfasting lounge.  A microwave, tea/coffee, water, milk and crockery are provided for late night snacks etc.  This is extra to the in-room tea/coffee making facilities.

Next morning we were greeted by glorious sunshine.  The breakfast room is ideally situated south-facing to receive the sun and waken you up gently.

An excellent selection of home made items were on offer such as yoghurt, jams, bread as well as cupcakes, home-grown fruit and cereals.

Creamy and not watery scrambled egg with non-fatty salmon, perfect.

The Hollies Full BreakfastFull Breakfast with home made tattie scone, two types of delicious sausage

The full Scottish breakfast got the thumbs up from Mr Foodie. Really well cooked using locally sourced food – two types of delicious sausage, home made potato scone and thick bacon.

We were stuffed to the brim!

The house also has a connection to Mackintosh and the art nouveau movement, this is reflected in a lot of the pieces around the house.  The Architect,  and friend of Mackintosh, John Keppie grew up and lived in this house until his death in 1945 and entertained the Glasgow Boys and Girls here.

Overall, a gem of a B&B, ideally situated for access to the High Street, transport, the golf course (5 min walk) and the beach, (10 min walk).   The food on offer is delicious, with obvious great pride in providing it.  Handy for a weekend away and not just for catching that early flight – but if you do have an early morning or late night flight to/from Prestwick International Airport then I can’t think of anywhere better to stay. It’s only 1 stop
