The Granary, Shawlands Cross, Glasgow – October 2011

It’s had a good spruce up and a bit of a clean but still has that lived in look (if that can be possible).   Nipped down for some grub and a pint.

I plumped for Calamari (£4.45) which were delicious.  Real little squids none of those fake onion ring looking ones.  Crispy and not too chewy

the man had cullen skink (£4.75) which was fishy and thick, however a lot of potato and leek and not a lot of fish chunks.  Otherwise a tasty soup.

Smoked Haddock Rarebit for me at (£9.75) which was described as smoked haddock topped with cheese and mustard mix, served with baby potatoes, asparagus, peas and spinach in a creamy lemon sauce.  Wow was it mustardy.  I ended up scraping chunks off and I like my mustard.  Overpowered the lovely haddock.  One wee dinky bit of asparagus too 🙁

Haggis, neeps n tatties (£8.25), asked man how it was “nice”, clean plate.   In depth 🙂

The night we visited there were two real ales on pump to assist the guinness, stella etc.

Oh what did you do? The Granary in Shawlands was an institution. Food was amazing. Jammed packed and tables had a waiting list every night. Everyone loved it. Shame. You could do so much better. Menu now rubbish..
