Ten must see sights in Bratislava

Bratislava must sees

Last New Year we were in Bratislava, which is an ideal place to visit for a short break in Europe. The city has lots of history and is very compact and walkable. Here are ten things in Bratislava we loved whilst there.  We have also included a map at the bottom of the page with more tips for sightseeing.

Bratislava Castle

Walk up the hill to get one of the best views of Bratislava, and beyond. Visit the Museum of History or take time out at the on-site cafe.

Listed as SNP Most but known as the UFO tower. Splash out on a meal with stunning views and the best toilet seat view ever! Or just get the lift to the roof and admire the view towards the old town.

Blue Church

The Blue Church, officially known as Church of St. Elizabeth is a stunning Art Nouveau Catholic church.  If the church is open, be sure to have a look inside. On the day we visited the main door was open which allowed us to enter slightly and view the church through another locked door/window.

Kazmik Tower

Standing 439 meters above sea level, Kazmik Tower is a TV tower with a revolving restaurant!  So of course worthy of a stop for food geeks like us!  On a clear day you can see the Alps (it was wet and overcast when we visited early).  We booked a taxi up to the tower as it‘s a bit of a hike from the nearest bus stop.

Slavin Memorial

High above Bratislava is Slavín, a memorial monument and military cemetery.  It is the burial ground for the fallen Soviet Army of World War II.  Slavin is a popular meeting point and worth a visit for the history and the view over Bratislava towards the east of Slovakia.

Old Town Hall

The Gothic old town hall in the centre of the city is one of the oldest buildings still standing.  The tower has been standing since around 1370!  You can visit the tower for a view across the city followed by the Bratislava City Museum next door.
