Staycation at the Isle of Coll Hotel

Relax and Rejuvenate

The Coll Hotel, situated in the Hebridean island of Coll off the west coast of Scotland, is a wonderful place to relax in these difficult times. Whether you are a family, a couple or just feel you need a break for a few days, this hotel ticks all the boxes.

Recently refurbished to a very high standard, with a beautiful, new restaurant extension, the hotel offers comfortable rooms (all very tastefully-decorated while still retaining old-world charm) plus wonderful views of the natural harbour. The garden overlooking the sea provides a beautiful setting for drinks in the summer, with a lounge also available providing a selection of books and games for wet weather entertainment.

The restaurant is now situated in the recently-completed new extension of the original hotel. The menus are very well planned with an excellent selection (largely locally-sourced and beautifully presented), with a reasonably-priced wine list of fine wines.

Breakfast is of particular note, with so many choices: full Scottish breakfast, smoked salmon and scrambled eggs, avocado on sourdough with chilli and sunflower seeds, plus our favourite Shakshouka – poached eggs in a hearty spiced tomato and pepper sauce with toasted sourdough bread. The other stars from the lunch and dinner menus included entrees such as hearty Cullen Skink or Iman Bayildi (tender aubergine with aromatic tomato and onion, served with Greek yoghurt) followed by a local seafood platter of lobster, crab, langoustines and mussels.

If you wish to take in the views across the bay to Mull, Staffa and the Treshnish Isles, grab a coffee or a glass of wine from the bar and sit in the beautiful hotel gardens. Fuschia hedges create wonderful windbreaks with very many well-stocked flowering borders. Relax and watch the sunset after a day sightseeing around the island.

This was our first trip to Coll and to the Hotel and we were not disappointed. The staff were very helpful and kind with very good service. The villagers were very happy to help and the village post office was a great place to browse plus a visit to the Saturday craft market was a wonderful bonus.

The Isle of Coll Hotel is well worth a visit for your staycation. Browse their website on www.collhotel.com or on Facebook.
