Star Bar, Eglinton Toll, Glasgow – 11th July 2008

The Star Bar is one of the few “auld man” pubs left in a sea of chains and upmarket gastropubs (well, maybe not so much at Eglinton Toll!). Thankfully they know their target audience.

£2.50 for a three course lunch and a decent/cheap pint of Tennents should you want a beer (they have some unusual bottles from overseas behind the bar too). The Star Bar isn’t scary or intimidating, in case you thought it might be, but it is full of pensioners at lunchtime!

Choose from a choice of soup or orange juice, 8 mains (careful – 2 have a 50p supplement!) and then a choice of creamed rice or jelly with tinned fruit.

We ate two soups, one macaroni cheese with chips and peas, one scotch pie with gravy and chips and two rice puddings with fruit. Next time we shall splash out on a £3 ashet pie and fish & chips!

Quick service, homemade tasting food and still very cheap too 🙂
