Rogano, 11 Exchange Place, Glasgow

Rogano glasgow

We were invited by Wire Media to sample a tasting menu at The Rogano for a bloggers’ lunch.

The Rogano, a Glasgow institution, has been in existence for 75 years and certainly knows what it is doing. Designed to resemble the Clyde-built Cunard Queen Mary cruise liner, the interior is amazing – Art Deco touches sweep round every curve.

I had been in the restaurant many years before; if you can, order the Scottish Seafood Fruits de Mer – wow!

Even the menu for a blogger event was elegant and gorgeous-sounding.

First course were deliciously plump looking Irish and Scottish oysters from Carlingford Lough and Cumbrae respectively. Served with Joseph Perrier Champagne.

Huge oysters and packed with flavour. It was good to have the opportunity to compare Irish and Scottish oysters directly. Unfortunately for my national pride, I did prefer the Irish oysters! Less salty and meatier.

Next course was Marrbury Smoked Salmon with Caperberries and lemon. It was served with capers rather than the full caperberry fruit however they still added a good zing to the salmon. Moist, not oily at all.

Grilled sea bass with Parmesan polenta cake, olive, sun listed tomato and shallot dressing.

A good, light dressing to go with the full-of-flavour sea bass. The crispy skin and fluffy meat went well with the cheesy polenta.

Clootie dumpling with Drambuie custard was our dessert. A well-sized portion of this traditional Scots’ dessert. Full of fruit and flavour.

Coffee and petit fours to end an excellent meal served with professional and friendly staff.

The lunch menu has 2 courses for £13.00 or 3 for £17.00, which considering the standard of food, service and the surroundings is excellent.

Menus can be found here.
