Review: The Press Bar, 199 Albion Street, Glasgow G1 1RU

Nipped into The Press Bar for a quick wee hauf before heading to Edinburgh on the train.

The Press Bar opened in 1937 and originally called the Express Bar as  the Scottish Daily Express occupied the building next door.

We are unsure when the name changed to The Press Bar, anyone help?

The decor sits well with the modernist building.

Inside the bar is comfortable, with areas for chatting, keeping to yourself or bar hugging.

There’s a good range of whiskies on offer – a legacy of journalism days perhaps.

Beers on tap include Caledonian Best, Stella, Magners, Tennents, Tennents Special 80 shilling, Tennents Light 60 shilling, Guinness and Harviestoun Bitter and Twisted.

Bar snacks are available with pie and beans or peas for £1.80, toasties from £170 and salad rolls from £1.30.

Clean toilets, friendly service and a great wee hideaway from the city centre.
