Recipe : Basic Shortcrust Pastry

A basic shortcrust pastry is handy to know how to make.  Mincemeat pies, apple pies, quiches the list is endless. This pastry can be used for both sweet and savoury dishes.

Ingredients

225g plain flour
100g butter, cold and diced
pinch salt

Method

Sift plain flour into a large bowl, add the diced butter and rub in with your fingertips until the mixture looks like breadcrumbs.
Stir in a pinch of salt, then a couple of teaspoons of water.
Mix to a firm dough.
Knead the dough gently on a floured surface.
Wrap in cling film and chill while you prepare your pastry filling
